HCL Verse for iOS 14.5.6 repeatedly prompts for password and sync does not resume after re-entering the password
Workaround: If the mail server supports authentication using the internet email address, change the account’s configured login username to the internet email address.
Problem Resolution
The app performs an internal validation step to confirm that a password retrieved from the secure keychain belongs to the correct account before using the password to authenticate background sync requests. This validation incorrectly assumed that the account’s login username and its internet email address were always identical. For accounts where the two values differ (for example, a login name of the user’s short name `testUser` instead of the user’s internet email address `testUser@example.com`), the validation always failed causing the app to treat a valid, previously-saved password as invalid and triggering a password re-entry prompt. Because the password is written back to the keychain using the same (non-internet email) login username on every attempt, the same validation failure recurred on the very next sync cycle — resulting in a repeating cycle of password prompts and failed sync attempts (server-side authentication failures) even when the correct password was supplied.
As this issue pertains to the login username differing from the internet email address, this observed behavior is not limited to upgrade scenarios. New accounts set up with differing login username and internet email address would also experience this observed behavior.
Development has identified the root cause and is actively working on a fix. The account validation logic is being updated to correctly recognize accounts whose login username differs from the internet email address, so the saved password can be validated and used correctly for background sync in both cases. The fix is currently undergoing internal validation and will be released as soon as it is confirmed.
